GIRLS ALOUD
Expressing surprise that Girls Aloud are still with us seems almost like an annual ritual now, one which has accompanied
the group's every career milestone from their second hit on. A second album; a third album; an arena tour; a greatest
hits package overflowing with the best pop music of this generation. And now, nearly half a decade on, a fourth album.
Cheryl Cole (née Tweedy), Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh have not merely survived, but
thrived, and have now outlasted the (first) careers of those colossi of '90s pop, Take That and the Spice Girls. And they
still seem unstoppable: Girls Aloud are a group of women at the very height of their powers, and they have no intention of
coming down any time soon.
Indeed, the high-octane rush of new single 'Sexy! No No No...' finds them raring to get back in the pop race. It sounds
nothing like anything else, but everything like Girls Aloud: opening with spacey techno synths and treated vocoder effects
before exploding into a mêlée of noises which sound like malfunctioning household appliances, with sirens and vocal whoops
going off in the background like fireworks.
See them at Elton Hall on Saturday 16 August in this special picnic-style concert – grab your friends and tickets now!
